  2. Dark or rusty spots of bed bug excrement on sheets and mattresses, bed clothes, and walls.
  3. Bed Bug fecal spots, egg shells, or shed skins in areas where bed bugs hide.
  4. An offensive, musty odor from the bugs’ scent glands.

Bed Bug bites are likely to be found on the parts of the body that are exposed to bed bugs during sleep – the hands, neck, face, shoulders, legs and arms. Bed bug bites are often grouped together and the bites appear small, can be flat or raised and may become inflamed, itchy, red or blistered.

Why You should not Overlook them

Bed bugs respond to the warmth and carbon dioxide emitted by the host and have mouth parts for piercing skin and sucking blood on humans. They are known to survive for several months without a feed. Bedbugs are highly productive in which after mating, each female lays 200-250 eggs throughout her lifespan.

Over time, they may scatter through the bedroom, moving into any crevice or protected location and spread to nearby rooms or apartments. As bed bugs cannot fly, they must either crawl or be passively transported in clothing, or more probably in luggage, furniture, books and other objects used as harbourages. Since bed bugs live solely on blood, having them in your home is not a sign of dirtiness. You are as likely to find them in immaculate homes and hotel rooms as in filthy ones.

Identifying Bed Bugs

Bedbugs are reddish brown, oval and flat, and about the size of an apple seed. During the day, they hide in the cracks and crevices of beds, box springs, headboards and bed frames. Bed Bugs are small, reddish-brown parasitic insects that bite the exposed skin of sleeping humans and animals to feed on their blood.

do i need professional help?

If you suspect an infestation, remove all bedding and check it carefully for signs of the bugs or their excrement. Remove the dust cover over the bottom of the box springs and examine the crevices in the bed frame. Also, check the area around the bed, including inside books, the edge of the carpet, and even in electrical outlets. Check your closet, because bedbugs can attach to clothing. can’t I just sleep somewhere else?

If you can bear with a few more nights of discomfort, it is recommended that you do not sleep in a different bed, different bedroom, or even on the couch. This is because hungry bed bugs will search throughout the home looking for a meal. It is easier to treat a hundred bed bugs in one room, than some bugs in several rooms.

do I throw away the mattress?

If you think you have bed bugs, do not move furniture out of the room, do not throw mattresses and other belongings away, do not rip up carpet, and do not use general pesticides on the bugs — all of this can spread the bedbugs further throughout your home.

How to kill bed bugs?

Every bed bug that you can find and remove is a reduction in the rapidly growing population. You can pick up the bed bugs with tape or a sticky lint roller, or vacuum them up. Remove the vacuum bag immediately afterward, and seal it in a plastic bag for disposal, to prevent any bugs from escaping. Bed bug eggs are often sticky, and may require strong suction to remove. For bedbugs instant kill, use 1STEP® Organic Bed Bug Killer (Spray). Product is Eco-Friendly and carries a citrus fragrance. Can be applied directly to mattresses, beddings, furniture, cabinet, flooring and carpet.

Use heat treatments on bedding, clothing, and other textiles. Carry the items in clean garbage bags and unpack them only in the pail or washing machine. Wash in hot water >49 degree Celsius or detergent before drying in a hot dryer >60 degree Celsius for 20 minutes.

Sun the mattresses for a few hours. Encase mattresses and box springs in close-fitting, impermeable bed bug-proof covers. If you think you have an infestation, leave the covers on mattresses and box springs.

Apply 1STEP® DIY Natural Bed Bug Powder to cracks and crevices of bed frames, seams of mattresses and along the perimeter of room as well as beneath the legs of your beds, chairs, or couches to attack bed bugs trying to climb up or down. Put on new bedlinens & enjoy a good night sleep.

Leave the powder undisturbed for a week. Then, vacuum up all the dead bed bugs and used powder. Repeat at least once more or weekly where necessary to eliminate nymphs that might hatch from the eggs or coming from unreached areas. Use 1STEP® Powder Duster for easy and user friendly application of bed bug powder.

How bad is the infestation?

Thorough inspection of infested premises should also seek to uncover the extent of the infestation, since the measures necessary for control will depend on whether the infestation is established and widely distributed throughout the premises, or recently introduced and likely to be more localised. As the detection and thorough treatment of all bed bug hiding places is a job which requires experience, professional assistance is recommended.

Key areas for inspection include (the common hiding / breeding spots):

Tufts, seams, buttons and folds of mattresses

Box springs, bed frames and covers

Couches, chairs, cushions and curtains

Window and door moldings

Cracks in walls or hardwood flooring

Under carpets along walls (tack trip)

Buffing 1STEP® Bedbug Powder (100% natural, non-toxic powder)

When bed bugs come into contact, the powder is picked up by the bedbug’s exoskeleton by static electricity. This will cut into the insects’ cuticle, absorbing all the body fluids and finally causing their deaths by dehydration. This allows a longer residual effect as the powder that remains will continue to be picked up by the bed bugs. Powder is odorless and Eco friendly.

Preparation before our Service Technician arrive:

As compared to other pest control, we do not require you to vacate your premises as 1STEP® offers Eco friendly treatment, instant kill to live bedbugs and eggs and leaves non-harmful residual effect to prolong the effectiveness of treatment. Good preparation is key to success for Bed bug treatment. Ensure all sheets, blankets and other bedding are removed and placed in a bin and either laundered or professionally cleaned.  To kill bed bug stages, materials need to be washed in hot water >49 degree Celsius or detergent before drying in a hot dryer >60 degree Celsius for 20 minutes.
